The fields for this weekend have now been confirmed.
We have also amended the results from last week’s KCC v FGC as we’d incorrectly placed Korean Catholic Church as the victors. In fact, it was Full Gospel Church who won the match, with KCC getting a bonus point for the close finish.
Thanks to all who emailed to let us know of the error.

A lot can happen in two games - table leaders can fall from grace and the lower ranks can rise beyond expectations. This week we start with division 3, which by all accounts the teams are each holding their own. Sino United dominate at the top, scoring an impressive 6 goals every time they take to the field. Hot on their heels are Every Nation Victory who will be out to prove themselves when these two meet in a couple of weeks. The biggest surprise came in round 4 when Navs United drew 2-all with ENV securing their first points on the table.
Division 2 has been no less exciting. The Shirley Strikers, who have been struggling near the bottom of the table, schooled division leaders, Spreydon Ankle last week 6 goals to 4. Thus handing Spreydon their first defeat of the season. Ox-E-Gen and KCC now take honours at the top of the table, but Oxford have the edge having put 11 of the best at the back of the Vatican City Rovers net. Spare a thought too for The Faith Warriors; struggling in the second division since their relegation from div 1. The Warriors scored their first win this week seeing down Christchurch North 3-1.
Nearly all teams in the first division still have a shot at winning the championship. Hornby Firsts hold onto a small 2 point lead their opponents. Both the West Coast Riders and last year’s champions, South City Firsts, can make this up with a win. Powerhouse are also sticking close with only 4 points between them and the tin cup. G-Force, who put on a good performance at the start of the season are realing from 3 consecutive loses. But the biggest achievement of recent weeks must go to Ilam Cherubs for their round 4 draw with the league leaders, Hornby United.
A couple of fields are still awaiting allocation for this weekend. Please check back Thursday for an update. Also a reminder to organisers to please let us know if you’ve postponed a match at least 48hrs before kick off to ensure the update reaches the website. Thanks to all, stay warm, stay healthy and stay H1N1 free.

The last 2 rounds have proven to us just how diverse each division is. Anyone in the 1st can still take the trophy with all teams on the points board. Hornby Firsts lead by just two points, but a win for Powerhouse this weekend will put them ahead. Only the Cherubs are still in need of a win - a daunting task for them up against HUF in Round 4.
Division 2 is split both ways with two teams undefeated at the top and two eagerly waiting for their first win at the bottom. In between them are the 4 teams playing their inaugral season in the second division. With 2 trophies up for grabs at the end of the season everyone still has a chance to lift a tin cup.
The third division closely mirrors last years set up with a new team breaking away from the pack with back to back wins for Sino United. Every Nation Victory are close behind with a game in hand and it’s a sure thing that they won’t want to finish second again this year. Hornby Seconds are enjoy a successful start to 2009 with 2 convincing wins but we should spare a thought for the Navs who had to wait 6 weeks for their first goal!
Thanks to everyone for keeping up such a positive, competitive spirit on the field. Best of luck to the teams playing this weekend. Wrap up warm - it’s not looking like it’ll be a dry weekend!

The results for Round 2 are now live. Overall it looks like it was a bit of a niggly weekend with some complaints about attitudes towards other players and referees. Let’s all remember, we’re playing in a competitive physical competition. There will be times when emotions are high. It’s what we do in those moments that count. If you need to vent, there’s no need to take it out on the opposition or have a blast at the referee… try to focus on playing good football. Failing that, take a sub and walk it off. Let’s all live out our call as Christians by setting a good example.

The fields have now been allocated for this weekend. Please check the draw to confirm where you’ll be playing. From Round 3 all our regular school fields will be available.
This weekend we have 2 teams playing at South Hagley Park. These fields are located near the old Deans Ave/Blenheim Road round-a-bout where the Ansvar Cup tournament was held last year. You will find the goal posts at South Hagley are marked (i.e. S2 = No. 2 Senior Ground).
While the weather hasn’t been the best this week, the ground is still fairly hard and games should proceed as planned. However, if we do have to postpone then we will post an update here by 8am on Saturday morning.

The current league champions, South City United 1 edged out last years runner-up, West Coast Riders by just 1 point. That means WCR get a bonus and already have points on the table despite coming second at full-time. Powerhouse denied Cherubs a point holding them out for a two-nil victory. G-Force, freshly promoted from their Div2a victory in 2008, held the Hornby United 1sts to a 3-all draw on the Hornby home ground.
All eyes were on Division two with half the teams being replaced in a reshuffle this year. It was success for two of the newcomers with newly promoted Full Gospel Church dominating the relegated Faith Warriors with a 5 point lead. The Korean Catholic Church kept Christchurch North United at bay, denying them any goals for a 2-nil win. Div2b winners, Ox-E-Gen, saw the Shirley Strikers go down with a 4-3 defeat, thus giving the Strikers a bonus point on the table. Spreydon and Vatican Rovers have a game in hand so we’ll see what that brings.
In the 3rd division it was Hornby United 2nd’s day defeating the Navigators 4-nil. Every Nation Victory retained their dominant form over the Issachar Warriors. In the clash of the new teams, Sino United rolled Vatican City United for a 6-2 victory putting them at the top of the table on goals scored.
Remember to check back this Friday to confirm your playing fields for Round 2.
Just a wee reminder as well to please get your results in by 5pm on the Sunday following your match.
