EIG - ANSVAR CUP 2008

20th YEAR OF COMPETITION

  • Venue: South Hagley Park (opposite the Blenheim Rd Overbridge) – Unless changed by CCC
  • Date: September 6
  • Time: First kick off 8:30 a.m.

Welcome, all teams, to this year’s EIG - ANSVAR Cup tournament. The draw has been posted here and as you will see, the teams have been divided into four groups. Each team’s group, position and handicap is a result of their final position on the league table (see general information notes below). If your team is drawn to play or referee at the 8.30am kick-off, please ensure that you are at the grounds by 8.15am.

In the event of wet weather possibly causing the Ansvar Cup to be cancelled please listen to Cancellations on 3ZB Sportstalk Saturday at 7.30am or check the website here. If in doubt, teams can also contact Barry on 021 500 829 and he will advise on the status of play.

PLEASE READ THESE RULES AND ADHERE TO THEM

Rules for EIG – ANSVAR Cup

Time keeping –

  • Teams must be ready to play within 5 mins of their match start time
  • If one team is ready and the opposing team is not on the field, the referee must start the game and the team ready to play can score a goal unopposed after which, that team then wins by default
  • In the event that it is a ‘no show’ by both teams, the referee will record a forfeit 5 mins after kick off time and neither team will gain any points
  • The matches are played in two 7-minute halves with no half time break. At halftime teams will change ends and start play immediately
  • The timed start for each match will be signaled by one long blast on the horn. The end of the first half will be two short blasts and the end of each match will be another long blast
  • Referees, must stick to the central time keeping of the foghorn.

Team composition –

  • A team shall consist of twelve players for a match
  • Seven players only may be on the field of play at any one time, while five substitutes only may be on the sideline. Substitutions may be made at any time during the match and referee’s approval is not needed
  • Only the same twelve players that start the match may be used in that match. No outside substitutions may be used
  • Substitutions may only come on to the field of play from the halfway line
  • It is legal to use different team combinations for different matches however, you may not import new players from other teams or divisions. Likewise no player shall play for more than one team or switch teams during the competition. Breach of this rule will result in team disqualification
  • All team members are asked to wear tops of the same colour.

Referees –

  • The referees are selected from teams that are on a bye period so it will not affect their availability for their own team matches
  • The matches your team is required to referee are on the draw
  • At the end of the final round, ALL captains are to report to the scoreboard where referees will be allocated for the semi-final and the final
  • Captains, please pick your referees carefully, we only want the best from your teams
  • Normal soccer rules apply with the exception that there is no offside rule, i.e. a player cannot be ruled offside
  • Points are 4 for a win, 2 for a draw and 1 for a 1-goal loss
  • In the semi-finals or final if the scores are tied at the end of the match, the winning team will be decided via a penalty shootout
  • Referees must be on the field in time to start the match at the allocated time and must report immediately following the match to the scoreboard and give the results. Failure to do either of these will result in a 2-point loss against the referee’s team for each offence and this year the penalty points will be enforced
  • Each team must provide their referee with a whistle. It is the responsibility of each captain to ensure that their referees are aware of their requirements

Format for the day –

  • There are four groups with a total of 20 teams entered and each team will play four matches within their group
  • The team with the highest points total in each group will go into the quarter-finals as will the runners-up in each group
  • The winners of the quarter-finals then progress to the semi-finals
  • If one or more teams are on the same number of points at the conclusion of their 4 matches, then we will revert to highest number of wins, draws, etc followed by goal differences, goals scored

Presentations – The trophy presentations for the league, excluding EIG – ANSVAR Cup, runner-up trophy, 3rd and 4th trophies will be made immediately prior to the semi-finals.

Finally, if we can all stick to the schedule and do our own bit then it should be an enjoyable morning. I do ask that all teams take away their own rubbish as a show of respect for the grounds.

Good luck to all teams.

Barry Matthews
