CIFL Sevens Tournament – Warren Park

The CIFL Sevens kicks off tomorrow at 8:30am at Warren Park in Hornby. These grounds may be a little out of the way for some teams so please ensure you give yourself plenty of time to get to the fields, particularly the teams kicking off the first round.

We don’t yet have a mapped layout of the grounds (I’ll be there at the crack of dawn to draw one up) so please check-in at the organisers tent to find what field you’re playing on. The draw remains unchanged from last week.

Due to poor ground conditions the CIFL Sevens Tournament has been postponed until next weekend (28 August). Please check back next week for confirmation of the venue.

CIFL Sevens draw now available

The sevens tournament draw is now available. We’re playing at South Hagley Park near the old Blenheim Road round-about on Deans Ave. A map of the fields layout can be downloaded here. It’s still unsure if we will be playing this weekend so please check back on Saturday morning before you depart for the fields to ensure we’ll be there.

CIFL Sevens Tournament

The end of season sevens tournament is scheduled to kick off this Saturday at South Hagley Park. The draw is awaiting confirmation and will be posted soon. Extra information and the rules of the tournament are available on the menu to the left.

First games kick off at 8:30am sharp so you need to be ready to go, this includes the referees as well! The prize-giving will take place between the semi-final and final (approx 12:30pm). I’d like to invite everyone to stick around for the prizes as we’ll also have a raffle for players in attendence.

The weather looks fair this week. Any postponements will be posted on the website no later than 7:30am Saturday.

Ilam Cherubs have won the first division! After struggling through 2009 the Cherubs stood strong at the top of the competition for most of this year. Their only loss was to the defending champions, South City United 1sts, who are division 1 runners up – short by only 3 points.

Division 2 has been utterly dominated by newcomers, One Way Jesus FC this season. OWJ have sat at the top of the table undefeated until the final round against division 2 runners up, Spreydon Ankle.

After chasing the top spot in third division table all season, South City United 2nds have won the plate. But spare a thought for runners up, Navs United. They held strong at the top all season, only to miss out on an unplayed match.

Congratulations and thank you to everyone who participated in the league this season. It’s been a great year and I hope you’ve all enjoyed the competition.

Next weekend we will finish with the CIFL Sevens Tournament at South Hagley Park. First games kick off at 8:30am and the trophy presentations will be around mid-day. The draw and other information will be posted here soon.

Final Round field update

A last minute change to playing fields tomorrow for Navs United v Shirley Strikers in division 3. South Hagley has been closed the game has now moved to Middleton Grange at 12:30pm.

Pray for warm dry winds to come dry up South Hagley for the sevens tournament next week.

Penultimate round results posted

Another good weekend of football has gone by and we’re down to the final round. Going into the last week the Cherubs hold their 3 point lead at the top of division 1.

One Way Jesus FC have already secured the 2nd division shield and Spreydon Ankle have the last opportunity to ruin OWJ’s season long winning streak.

The Division 3 plate all but has Navs United’s names on it. Currently tied in first place with South City United 2nd’s, the Navigators still have a game in hand to put them back in the lead. However, the Issachar Warriors are chasing South City for the runner-up trophy with just a point between them.

The final round kicks off this weekend at 10am and results will be posted Sunday evening. We’re then scheduled to play the end of season sevens tournament the following weekend (August 21st). More information to come soon.

Round 9 / Play-offs

After nearly a month of wash outs we were greeted with the first hint of spring sunshine this weekend. The results are now in and have been posted and the table updated.

We can see there were were few surprises in the play-offs. Faith Warriors squeezed an extra point out of Hornby Firsts and Sino United thumped KCC to both put much needed points on the table. One Way Jesus proved their place at the top of the table defeating the Barbarians 7 to 4 and have now secured the 2nd division shield.

South City United 1sts beat season rivals and competition leaders Ilam Cherubs by a single goal. This gives SCU one chance to secure the cup for a 3rd year running – that chance rests on Ox-E-Gen or G-Force beating Cherubs and SCU winning their last 2 matches.

The Round 8 catch-up and 2nd play-off are scheduled for this weekend. Please check the draw Friday afternoon to ensure you have the latest update on fields.

Now would also be a good time to mention the end of season sevens tournament is scheduled to be played the week after Round 10. This will be August 21st as long as the weather holds.

The draw has been updated with fields for this weekend. With any luck we’ll have enough sun to dry out the pitch for the weekend. Any cancellations will be posted on the website on Saturday, 8:30 at the latest.

No footy this weekend

As expected, all games this weekend are off due to poor weather conditions. The draw will be updated this weekend to reflect the shifting games.
