Barry’s Farewell Gift

Updated: 31 August 2009

This year the Christchurch Interchurch Football League is 25 years old. Since 1994 Barry Matthews has been running the league and after 15 years he is finally taking a break.

Under Barry’s guidance we have seen the competition more than double in size. This has been long enough for him to see young men who started out playing now being replaced by their sons (although there are a few old boys still kicking about). Barry has poured hundreds of hours into organising draws, sorting out difficulties and keeping things running smoothly over the last decade and a half. All of this has also been without monetary reward.

As thanks for Barry’s efforts, we invited teams to contribute towards a gift for Barry which was presented to him during the trophy presentations at the end of season Sevens Tournament. All together we raised $910 to purchase travel vouchers from House of Travel, Ferrymead so that Barry can have a hard earned holiday. A heart felt thanks to everyone who contributed below.
