The start of the 27th season was postponed following the Christchurch earthquake. But all teams were keen to continue and we kicked off at the end of April, with the first 6 rounds played back-to-back over 6 weeks.

South City 1sts remained true to form and stood undefeated at the top of the league throughout the season. Runners-up, BCC Powerhouse, put on a good challenge with 69 goals (+50 goal difference) but could not breach South City’s defenses when the teams met in the exciting final round.

Reformed Rovers returned to the league after an 8 year absence and positioned themselves at the top of the table for most of the season. But a surprise defeat in the final round opened the way for Hornby Presbyterian 1st who had been chasing, only 2 points behind from the start.

South City 2nds season was a mirror image of their division 1 counter-part and finished the season undefeated. Their peers put in a good challenge, but their trophy was secure with still two rounds to play.

2010 will be long remembered for the earthquake that shook the city a few days after we wrapped up another successful season.

Ilam Cherubs dominated the first division conceding only 1 match to runner-up South City United 1sts. Their success was a complete turn-around from their final placing in 2009. To top it off, the Cherubs also took home the Sportsmanship Award having been nominated the team most en-likened to the spirit the league was fonded on. This was the first big win for Ilam Cherubs in the 13 years they’ve been in the competition, and they well and truly earned it!

The division 2 champion was also decided with a few rounds still left to play. Newcomers, One Way Jesus FC, hammered home their victory against all challengers. They’ll be putting up a good challenge for the Div1 Cup should they choose to return in 2011.

Division 3 was a heartache for Navs United. They were pipped to the post in the final round when South City 2nd’s relentless pursuit throughout the season finally paid off.

The 25th season of the league was a closely fought competition in all 3 divisions. It came down to the results of the final round to decide most of the winners.

South City United 1sts bounced back from a slow start to win the championship for the second year running. West Coast Riders were runners up again for the third year in a row, just 1 point separated them from South City. Division 2a was a close call with all 4 teams only 2 points apart on the table. Ox-E-Gen took the shield home in the end. Division 2b was won by The Faith Warriors who bounced back mid-season after a 5 game losing streak! Division 3 was another close call with Every Nation Victory emerging the victors.

As a footnote to the season, South City United 1sts won the Ansvar Cup at the end of season sevens tournament. If that wasn’t enough, they were just 1 point off winning the Sportsmanship Award as well proving that you can come out on top and still be one of the league’s nicest teams.

2008 was one of the wettest seasons on record. Although off to an early start with Easter weekend nearly a month early, teams endured a 6 week delay towards the end of the season due to bad weather. Ultimately the final round had to be cancelled, but at least we had sunshine for the Ansvar Cup 7-a-side tournament.

Division 1 was a tight pack with Hornby United Firsts, South City United 1 and FC Corea all vying for the premier trophy right up until the final round when the West Cost Riders pipped Hornby to be runners up on goal difference. Both Divisions 2 and 3 quickly became 1 horse races with G-Force and Full Gospel Church dominating their peers.
