It looks like most city council fields won’t have their posts up and ready for kick-off at 10am this Saturday morning. As such, we’ve had to postpone Round 1 to 17th April.
Looks like we all have 1 more week to refine our set plays…

The 2010 season draw is now available.
We have 21 teams competing in the league this year. Vatican City United and division 3 champions, Every Nation Victory won’t be returning for 2010. Hopefully we will see them both again in the near future.
We do have the pleasure of welcoming two new teams to our ranks. One Way Jesus Football Club joins us from the All Nations Mission Church and La Vida Life Force are coming in from Life Church in Riccarton. They will be joining division 2 and division 3 respectively.
There is a small reshuffle in the divisions this year. Hornby United 1st are moving to division 2 as they are Hornby 1sts in name alone. The team is in-fact made up of most of the players from last year’s Hornby 2nds. Ox-E-Gen are moving up to the first division after winning the 2nd last year. Sino United also move up to division 2 after finishing strongly in their debut season. Shirley Strikers will be moving to division 3 along with Christchurch North United.
There is also a minor change to the format of the draw. We will not be splitting the second division in two parts near the end of the season. Division2a and 2b were originally set up when we had a disproportionate number of teams competing in the middle division previously. However, as all 3 divisions are nearly the same size we felt it only fair that we give everyone an equal opportunity to win a trophy.
More info and updates coming soon. Stay tuned!

After a brilliant morning of soccer, South City United 1sts emerged the victors to win the EIG – Ansvar Cup trophy! This is a first for the CIFL as we have no written account of a team has previously winning both the 1st division and sevens. We can also reveal that SCF were only 1 point off from winning the Sportsmanship trophy, so the double win is decidedly earnt!
Thank you to everyone who turned up on saturday. It was a great day for football and we appreciated all the feedback that came through. We have several items that were left behind on the day, so drop us a line if you’re missing a necklace, Puma boots bag or child’s jersey.
The final results for the sevens tournament were as follows:
- South City United Firsts
- West Coast Riders
- Spreydon Ankle
- G-Force
The Handicap Cup was deservedly won by NAVs United who, after a winless season, finished the day with 2 draws and a win!

We’re pretty good with time keeping so the trophy presentations will be taking place around noon. Don’t forget too – bring plenty of water and something to snack on as it looks like it’ll be another brilliant day in the sun!

Opps – turns out we got the result from the Div2A game the wrong way round. Korean Catholic Church actually beat Spreydon Ankle and finished in second place. Well done KCC!
I’m now off to sand down a trophy…

Congratulations to South City United 1sts who are the league champions for the second year running! West Coast Riders are division 1 runners up for the 3rd time in a row – this year just 1 point separated them and South City.
Division 2a honours go to Ox-E-Gen who squeezed out Spreydon Ankle on Goal Difference alone. Division 2b belongs to The Faith Warriors who bounced back mid-season after a 5 game slump. The Division 3 leader board was hard fought between Sino United and Every Nation Victory with ENV taking the prize.
Congratulations and thank you to everyone who participated in the league this season. We’ve had a fantastic time running the league and hope you’ve all enjoyed the competition.
Next weekend we finish with the Sevens Tournament at South Hagley Park. First games kick off at 8:30am and the trophy presentations will be around mid-day. The draw and other information will be posted on the website soon.

The league table has been updated with the results from the penultimate round. Defending champions, South City Firsts have moved to the top of the league for the first time this season and only need a win against the Cherubs this weekend to retain their title!
Now’s a good opportunity for us to clarify how the final placings on the table are decided. Team positions are defined by total Points, then by Goal Difference, then by Goals scored. If two teams are tied on all 3 variables then the placing is shared. In the case of the division leaders and runners-up, the trophies are shared.
Best of luck to all teams for the final round this weekend. Details of the Sevens Tournament will be posted with the round 10 results on Sunday evening.

The results from this weekend are now up. Some nice underdog wins in Division 1 while Division 3 stuck to the status quo. Division 2a is too hard to predict – meanwhile Div2b took a week off!
